My name is Deb Capone and I've been there, too. My beautiful daughter joined me through international adoption. Just like you, I learned that love isn't always enough to protect her. That children need real answers—and responses—to questions that can hurt. I also learned that not everyone has the language to answer these questions, but Families Are Forever, Dumplings are Delicious and Tooth Fairy Tales do!

I wrote these three award-winning books to do three things:

• to share the true meaning of families;
• to reinforce the idea that different is different — not better or worse;
• to give my daughter a role model she could relate to and be proud of
  

Imagine my delight when I discovered that parents and teachers found the books to be wonderful tools — not only for discussing adoption and family formation — but for engaging in broader conversations about acceptance of all people, culture, diversity and even geography!

I know that my job as a parent is increasingly complex as the challenges that my daughter faces as a child of color and a child of adoption are things that I have never personally faced. But as her advocate, I can spread truth about family formation as far as I can — into homes, schools, libraries, and communities — so that all children will be accepted and respected for who they are. So they won't have to explain or defend how their families were formed, what they look like or how their parents chose to live-or be hurt by another person's ignorance or insensitivity.
